In Celebration (and because of BISQUE!)

Two things.

First-- Sink Me! has reached 150 followers and I'm exceedingly pleased and grateful to all of you for supporting this corner of inanity and nonsense.

Second-- I've been wanting to host another contest on here for some time now and I thought a new follower mark would be a good time to do so.

So in celebration of 150, we're going to have a Studio C-themed picture contest here at Sink Me!  If you aren't watching Studio C, you should be.  The videos are all on YouTube and there's literally practically no excuse to not be watching them.  (Once you start watching you'll understand why you have to be careful about misusing the word "literally.")

Anyway, the concept of the contest is very simple.  You take a picture from a period drama/period musical/old-fashioned movie, choose a line from a Studio C video that goes with it, slap the two together using PicMonkey, and email me the finished .jpg or .png file.   (Send all emails to missdashwood95 at gmail dot com, please.)  Examples of what your picture might look like are shown below.

So!  You have until Monday, December 15th to submit your entries.  There's no limit to how many pictures you can make.  ;) Please do let me know which video your caption comes from, and also which movie your picture comes from, for citation purposes.  Please don't leave entries in the comments... email is best and safest way to submit pictures for Sink Me!.  :D  And, finally, please have fun.

P.S. DON'T YOU HONEY ME.

I'll Give You a Hint... It Starts With P!

Many of the hilarious people who read and contribute to this blog are familiar with the Bored Shorts channel on YouTube-- a very clever family that puts together videos of their children telling family history (Kid History) or making up stories of their own (Kid Snippets), which the adults then lip-synch and act out.  The result is pretty funny.  And the videos are chock-full of great quotes.  Since Sink Me! is all about quotes (and pictures), I've decided to host a new contest this week, and the theme is... you guessed it... Kid Snippets and Kid History.  Naturally, I couldn't resist making a few examples.

From Babysittting and Pride and Prejudice 1995

From Punching Cars and The Scarlet Pimpernel

From Art Class and The Scarlet Pimpernel

From Babysitting (same link as the other one--it's the same video, yes thank you my dear) and Cranford

So... your job is to find any picture from any period drama that goes with a quote from a Bored Shorts video, put them together using Photoshop or PicMonkey or Paint or whatever you have to work with, and send it in to missdashwood95[AT]gmail[DOT]com.  Be creative.  Be wacky.  Don't worry about the picture actually making sense.  Bored Shorts doesn't make sense.  That's why it's funny.

Here's a playlist of Bored Shorts videos to get you started if you need ideas, and I've added some of my favorite quotes below for Inspiration.  Feel free to use these in your pictures if you are so inclined.

"Hey, you weirdos! I'm gonna steal your birthday stuff!"
"The timer in my head is running out. GUESS!"
"My baby brother IS CUUUUUUUUUUTE."
"My name is Jake and I'm poking the snake. Poke, poke, poke."
"Mom said NO SNACKS."
"Christmas is a magical time of joy and wonder.  Like you wonder when you're gonna open all those presents."
"Then he runned around and around and around.  The End."
"My mom doesn't make me eat peas ALL DAY YET."
"Randy's room's not clean!"
"FACT."
"Oceanology.  I had a class."
"You can't even taste it!" "Then why is it gross?"
"David's always the donkey."
"MOM! Can we sell our candy?"

Submissions are due by Saturday, July 6th.  I'll choose the top ten (or top whatever, depending on how many entries come in) and post them on Monday, and you can all vote for your favorite.  Any picture submitted to the contest may be posted on the blog at a later date (with full credit to you, of course), even if it doesn't make it into the poll. Please be aware of this as you submit your creations.  When you submit a picture, please also remember that I will add the Sink Me! watermark (TieYourOwnCravat.blogspot.com) in an unobtrusive corner of the picture.  This will redirect people back to this blog if the pictures get reposted somewhere else.

Looking forward to your entries!  If you have any questions, do leave a comment.

Now I'm going to go run around and around and around.  The End.

Charles Dickens Contest!

Let's face it-- Sink Me! is in desperate need of some new material.  I've been frightfully busy and haven't had as much time to make things as I'd like, besides which my inspiration seems to have gone missing.  I checked the laundry hamper and under my bed, but it hasn't turned up.  Send it to Barton Cottage if you find it, 'kay? Care of Miss Amy Dashwood, and I'll reimburse you for postage.

Anyways, in light of all that, I've decided to host another captioned-picture contest here on Sink Me!  The rules are the same as they've been before... with a twist.

  • Each and every entry must relate to a Charles Dickens story in some way.  The picture can be from a Dickens movie adaptation, or the quote can be from a Dickens novel or movie (or the picture and quote can BOTH be from Dickens if you so desire).
  • You may send in up to three entries per person.
  • Post your entries on your blog and leave a link to the post in the comments on this post, or you may email your entries to me at missdashwood95[at]gmail[dot]com.
  • Entries must be at least 400x300 pixels, and if they are emailed they must be attached as JPG, JPEG or PNG files.
  • When you submit an entry to the contest, it is with the understanding that I may post it on Sink Me! at a later date (with full credit, of course) even if it is not a finalist in the contest.
  • The contest will be open until Friday, December 21st at 9 PM.  On Saturday, December 22nd I will select the top ten (or top twelve...) entries and post a poll here so you may all vote for your favorite.
  • As always, please keep your entries clean, God-honoring and family friendly.  I reserve the right to refuse any submissions that I do not consider appropriate for this blog.
  • Last but not least... don't forget to have fun!

(If you have any other questions, feel free to leave a comment and ask!)

Making Faces

The poll has closed, and the results are in.  Congratulations to Maria Elisabeth for her fantastic entry, which has won the Great, Grand and Glorious Prize of absolutely nothing whatsoever! (Well, okay, fame and glory and all that.  She may boast of her exploits to the ladies if she so chooses. :P)

Thanks to everyone who entered, and especially to Maria, our big winner!

The Final Vote

The two candidates for first place have been selected, and I'm proud and delighted to announce that they are...

"You Killed My Father" by Eowyn

and

"Watch Factory" by Maria Elisabeth.

Congratulations, Maria and Eowyn!

These two pictures will now battle it out in one final poll.  And still the tension keeps on growing... so go vote!

But after a great deal of seesawing, I've finally chosen ten entries that were truly outstanding.  These entries appear in two polls at your right--voting will last until the end of this week, and next Monday (the 25th) there will be just two entries left and you can vote for a final winner!  Meanwhile, I'll be posting some of the other hilarious entries here on Sink Me! so you can have something to giggle over as you vote.

Without further ado, and in no particular order...

Contest Closed

The Sink Me! button contest is now officially closed-- thank you so much to everyone who submitted entries! The ten finalists will be announced on Monday.

I've had so much fun looking through all the entries, and I'm sorry that y'all can't win... but there's so much good material here, I'm dying to put it on the blog! So here's the question--would you be willing to have your entries published on Sink Me! after the contest is over even if they don't win? If that's okay with you, just let me know in a comment, and then over the next few weeks your pictures will be popping up on here. :D

Contest!

Sink Me! needs some new material, folks.  So I'm asking each and every one of you lovely readers to consider entering the Sink Me! image contest.  The rules are simple-- you may enter up to three different images from period dramas with text on them from another movie (either a period drama, an animated film, a musical, whatever you like!).  Then post the pictures on your own blog and leave a link here in the comments of this post.  The contest will be open until Saturday, June 16th.  (Oh, and please make sure that all the images and captions are God-glorifying-- I reserve the right to not consider any entry that makes me uncomfortable in any way.)

On Monday, June 18th, I will choose ten top entries and put up a poll so y'all can vote for your favorite.  (But all ten finalist pictures WILL be posted on Sink Me! throughout the next few days, rest assured!)  The winner will win the amazing, stupendous grand prize of... fame, honor and glory on Sink Me!. :D

Can't wait to see what you clever people come up with!

P.S. It's about time Sink Me! had its own blog button, don't you think? Feel free to post this on your blogs and do a little free advertising! :D
